This was another case of a delightful character home with lovely sash windows and some very interesting (and rare) internal vertical shutters but where the owners needed to improve the thermal efficiency and control heating bills.
The clients had already had a quote which proposed the complete removal of all the sashes and their boxes together with the shutters - something that the clients were unhappy to accept.
They contacted Hampshire Sash Window Services Limited - www.hantssash.co.uk for a second opinion and they sought our advice as to whether we could provide new hardwood sashes with slimline double glazed units that could be accommodated within the existing boxes as these were in good condition.
As is often the case this was possible. After surveying we were able to design and make sashes which replicated the mouldings and look & feel, retaining the character and aesthetics of the original windows and most importantly keeping the internal shutters in place and fully operational. These were retro-fitted into the original boxes.
The installation was completed with discrete draught-proofing installed which to quote the client " ... has completely transformed the atmosphere in the rooms".
